Art Appreciation

Children need to learn to express themselves. Art is the perfect way to do that for young children that are not yet writing well. To truly learn to express through art, a variety of techniques must be explored. What better way to do that than to learn about the artist that created and perfected them.

This class is designed for 3-6 or 7-10 year olds to learn about famous artists. Children's natural curiosity of the world at this age is the perfect time to introduce real art, the meaning behind it and a history of the artist. This class will also include hands on techniques used by the artist we are studying.

I created this curriculum for a Montessori Classroom setting over ten years ago. It was such a great success in the classroom that I felt the need to share it with others.

This curriculum was featured as "Stepping in to an Artist's Shoes" at the American Montessori Society National Conference in 2011.

Linking Science With Literature

Children love the familiar, it helps them make sense of the world. Taking beloved nursery rhymes, books and poems and using them to help explain science concepts will lead to better understanding and retention.

Children learn best when they can connect new knowledge to something they already know. This class is designed for children ages 3-6 where we will take stories and nursery rhymes and then connect science concepts to it. Hands on experiments in every class.

This curriculum was designed in a Montessori classroom and used for the last six years. It was featured as "When Jack and Jill Went Up a Hill" at the American Montessori Society National Conference in 2012. I was also an AMS Webinar in 2013.
